I’m seriously considering buying the movie rather than relying on rentals. While we usually stream films, this one has become a favorite in our house. My nine-year-old listens to the soundtrack on repeat—she even has it on Spotify and proudly serves as the family DJ in the minivan. If your kids love colorful animation and an energetic soundtrack, this film is worth a family watch.
Even though a lot of people are talking about other superhero films, Into the Spider-Verse stands out for our family. My son and husband saw another Spider-Man film on opening night, but with younger children I prefer to wait for home releases. Into the Spider-Verse captivated everyone, including my older daughter who came home from college to watch it with us and ended up loving it too. If you haven’t seen it yet, consider planning a movie night with your kids and these themed brownies.
Spider-Man Spider Web Brownies
These Spider-Man Spider Web Brownies are easy to make and great for a movie night or birthday party. The base is a simple boxed brownie mix, but you can use your favorite scratch recipe if you prefer. The fun and impressive part is the marshmallow spiderweb decoration—it’s a technique often used for Halloween cakes that works wonderfully on fudgy brownies.

The trick is to melt marshmallows just enough so they become tacky and stretchable. Heat them briefly—about 30 seconds in the microwave—then stir. You want them gooey but not overcooked. If marshmallows get too hot they can become stiff or gluey when they cool, so watch your timing closely. I also learned the hard way that some ceramic bowls retain heat and can overcook the marshmallows; a plain microwave-safe bowl works best.
How to Make Spider Webs from Marshmallows
Below is a straightforward explanation of the marshmallow web technique. It takes a little practice, but the results are worth it and kids love the finished look.
Start by melting 8–10 full-size marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl for about 30 seconds and then stir them until they are slightly melted and sticky. Let them cool for 30 seconds to a minute so they won’t burn your fingers. Pinch a very small amount between your thumb and forefinger, then begin to stretch it. Add the fingers of your other hand and keep stretching the marshmallow until it becomes thin and can span the width of the brownies. You can layer these thin threads in different directions to build a web effect.
This technique works best on fudgy brownies. Cake-style brownies tend to crumble when the marshmallow is stretched across them because the pressure can pull apart the cake. If you use a thicker pan (an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 pan for the same batter will produce denser squares), the marshmallow web lays on more solid ground and looks much better.
Continue stretching small pinches of marshmallow and laying them across the brownies until you’re happy with the coverage. Once the webs look the way you want, sprinkle red sugar crystals lightly over the marshmallow to give a Spider-Man color accent. Place the finished brownies in the freezer for a few minutes to firm the marshmallow so the threads won’t peel off when you cut them. Running your knife under hot water and wiping it dry between cuts helps slice through sticky marshmallow cleanly.

With a bit of practice the web strands become thinner and more delicate-looking, delivering a dramatic, fun result. These brownies are quick to prepare, visually striking, and perfect for a Spider-Man-themed snack at home. They’re also adaptable: swap the red sugar for other colors to match different themes or characters.
Ingredients
- 1 box of brownie mix (9 x 13 size) — plus required mix ingredients (eggs, water, oil)
- 8–10 full-size marshmallows
- Red sugar crystals (for decoration)
- 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 pan (optional: use smaller pan for thicker brownies)
- Olive oil spray or nonstick spray
Instructions
- Prepare the brownie batter according to the box instructions. For fudgier, thicker brownies, bake in an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 pan rather than a 9 x 13.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely before decorating.
- Place 8–10 marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for about 30 seconds.
- Remove and stir; marshmallows should be slightly gooey. Let them cool for 30–60 seconds so they are warm but not burning hot.
- Pinch a very small amount between your thumb and forefinger and begin stretching. Add fingers from the other hand and continue stretching until you can span the brownie with a thin thread.
- Gently lay the stretched marshmallow threads across the brownie in different directions to create a web pattern. Repeat until you have the desired coverage.
- Sprinkle red sugar crystals over the marshmallow web to add color.
- Place the brownies in the freezer for a few minutes to firm the marshmallow threads, then slice into squares. Running a knife under hot water before each cut makes slicing easier.
- Serve and enjoy with your favorite Spider-Man movie night!
Notes
If you try to cut the brownies before the marshmallow has set, the web threads may peel off or stretch. Cooling briefly in the freezer helps the marshmallow hold its shape. Also, be cautious with marshmallow temperature—overheated marshmallows become difficult to stretch. A microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl that doesn’t retain too much heat works best.
