Over the next four days we’ll zip through the house, tidying and cleaning our way to a guilt-free, happy Mother’s Day weekend. Some people say Mother’s Day is just a commercial scheme to get fathers, friends and children to spend money on cards, flowers and chocolates. I prefer to see it as a chance to honor the courage, strength, skill and beauty of mothers—whatever you call it, it’s a day worth celebrating.
To make the weekend feel special and to enjoy a pleasantly tidy home (as tidy as possible with kids around), we’ll focus on clearing clutter and cleaning three key rooms: the kitchen, the bathroom and the bedroom. We’ll also involve the little ones and encourage them to help. Strap in—it’s a manageable challenge to accomplish in four days with efficient, focused effort. If I can get it done, I get to retire the rubber gloves for the week and relax. I might even paint my toenails electric lime green or another wildly fun color.
First things first: a glowing home starts with removing clutter, so that’s where we begin.
It’s Monday—and we’re fighting clutter crime. Grab a garbage bag and a basket or box and get ready to tackle piles and scattered items.
Why bother? Because busy moms deserve a tidy, safer home where you can walk to the coffee pot without stepping on Legos or tripping over sneakers. A clearer home reduces daily friction, makes routines smoother and frees up mental energy.
Simple Daily Challenge: Set a timer for five to ten minutes and put away as much clutter as you can. Aim for a goal—say, clearing 100 items—and you’ll be surprised how fast you can make visible progress with upbeat music and a little momentum. Small things count: Legos, doll clothes, freshly washed baby bottles, tossed t-shirts—everything matters. Count it all and celebrate each small win.
