Low-Carb Honey Mustard Sauce Recipe for Keto and Low-Carb Diets

Honey mustard is one of my go-to sauces. It pairs beautifully with pork tenderloin, chicken, pretzels, or as a quick salad dressing. Brushing chicken breasts with honey mustard before breading makes a flavorful baked dish, and I’ve even used it on grilled bratwurst or a ballpark hot dog. I used to keep a jar in the refrigerator because it was so easy to make and added so much flavor—though it did add carbs.

Traditional honey contains about 17 g of carbs per tablespoon, and even an organic honey-mustard condiment can be high in carbohydrates. For example, a commercial organic honey mustard lists roughly 16.5 g of carbs per tablespoon. If you’re watching carbs, that adds up quickly. Our version delivers the same creamy, sweet-tangy honey mustard flavor but with less than 1 gram of carbohydrate per serving. We get that sweetness by using liquid sweeteners such as liquid stevia or EZ-Sweetz (liquid sucralose), which are excellent low‑carb substitutes and keep the sauce keto-friendly.

Ingredients

This honey mustard is mayonnaise-based and comes together in about five minutes. Chilling it for a couple of hours helps the flavors meld, so we recommend refrigerating before serving.

Our recipe leans a bit heavier on mayonnaise, which creates a milder, creamier color compared with store-bought versions that use more yellow mustard. If you prefer a bolder mustard taste or more of that classic yellow color, add an extra teaspoon of yellow mustard and reduce the Dijon slightly.

We season the sauce with garlic powder, smoked paprika, and apple cider vinegar. For best flavor, we suggest a high-quality raw apple cider vinegar. In our experience, the raw, unfiltered varieties offer better flavor and depth.

The key to keeping this low carb is the sweetener. We use liquid stevia drops; about 18 drops replace the sweetness of two tablespoons of sugar or the equivalent amount of honey. If you prefer, you can use EZ‑Sweetz (liquid sucralose); it has a clean sweetness with minimal aftertaste and is highly concentrated—just a few drops will do. Adjust the number of drops to suit your taste.

Mix the ingredients, chill for a couple of hours, and you’ll have a versatile low-carbohydrate honey mustard that’s great for dipping wings, dressing salads, or serving with grilled brats and pork. It keeps well in the refrigerator and is ready whenever you need a quick sauce.
