This no-bake Reindeer Munch is one of those quick, joyful holiday recipes you can make in minutes—sometimes even in pajamas. It’s a family favorite because it’s easy to put together and fun to customize with seasonal mix-ins. Kids enjoy helping shop for festive candies and picking color combinations, and the finished mix is perfect for sharing at parties, snack time, or on a cookie tray.

Since the first Monster Munch I made, themed Muddy Buddy mixes have been regulars during the holidays. This Christmas version leans on seasonal candy for charm, but the base recipe stays simple and reliable. I settled on the name Reindeer Munch for search visibility, though “Sleigh Snacks” sounds just as cheerful.

This recipe is a keeper for several reasons:

This is a no-bake EASY Christmas snack mix recipe

It’s genuinely easy. The cereal gets coated with a melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture, then tossed with powdered sugar and your chosen mix-ins. No oven required, minimal cleanup, and results in a crunchy, sweet snack that sets in about 20 minutes in the fridge (longer at room temperature). It’s a perfect last-minute addition to holiday treats or an easy make-ahead gift.

Reindeer Munch fills space in gift boxes

If you’ve wrapped treat boxes before, you know how quickly space adds up. Cookies and macarons look beautiful, but they require more baking to fill multiples boxes. A voluminous snack like Reindeer Munch is an easy filler that still feels homemade and festive. It pairs well with other treats like caramel corn when you want variety without extra baking.

Christmas Muddy Buddies: a delicious alternative to cookies

Cookie fatigue around the holidays is real. Reindeer Munch offers a different flavor and texture profile—sweet and salty with crisp cereal, crunchy pretzels, and candy mix-ins—so it’s a welcome break from trays of similar cookies. It’s also a crowd-pleaser at cookie exchanges because it’s unique and disappears fast.

When planning mix-ins, aim for a balance of sweet and salty elements and varied textures. Mini pretzels, candy-coated chocolates, and extra chocolate chips are all great choices; nuts and sprinkles can be added too. Avoid peppermint-heavy sprinkle blends—mint tends to dominate the mix.

Recipe notes and variations

Here are a few helpful notes to adapt the recipe for dietary needs and personal taste.

Nut-free or gluten-free options:

To make the mix nut-free, substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter or another nut-free spread. The cereal base is usually rice or corn squares, which are typically gluten-free; always check packaging to confirm. Choose gluten-free mix-ins when needed.

Mix-in ideas:

Seasonal M&Ms, mini pretzels, dry-roasted peanuts, extra chocolate chips, and sprinkles (non-mint) are all great. White chocolate chips give a snowy look ideal for Christmas; if you prefer, use semisweet chocolate chips instead.

I didn’t plan this shot. My little walked past my shoot and just reached in to grab some of the mix.

I hope you enjoy making and sharing this festive Reindeer Munch. It’s fast, flexible, and a cheerful addition to holiday baking lists.

Give Santa what he really wants this year! Make a batch of this festive cereal snack mix. Reindeer Munch is an easy, no-bake treat that works well for movie nights, gift boxes, or cookie platters. p.s. — This treat is for humans, not reindeer or puppies.

Ingredients

  • 9 cups corn or rice squares cereal
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (see notes)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 2/3 cups powdered sugar (see notes)

Optional Mix-Ins

  • 1 1/2 cups mini pretzels
  • 1 cup candy-coated chocolate candies (like M&Ms)
  • dry roasted nuts
  • seasonal sprinkles
  • extra chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Place the cereal in a large mixing bowl with a lid, or in a stockpot.
  2. Combine the chocolate chips, butter, and peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute, let stand 30 seconds, then stir. Heat in 30-second intervals as needed until smooth.
  3. Pour the chocolate–peanut butter mixture over the cereal and stir to coat evenly.
  4. Add the powdered sugar to the bowl, cover, and shake until the cereal is well coated.
  5. Remove the lid and stir in your mix-ins.
  6. Spread the mixture on a lined baking sheet, breaking up any large clumps. Refrigerate about 20 minutes until the chocolate sets (about an hour at room temperature).
  7. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Best if consumed within 3 days.

Notes

To make this nut-free, substitute sun butter or another nut-free spread for the peanut butter. For a dairy-free version, use a dairy-free butter substitute and dairy-free chocolate chips.

Most Muddy Buddies use semisweet chips; white chocolate chips are used here to give the mix a snowy appearance. If you find powdered sugar sticks to the sides of your bowl, you can use a bit extra—this is optional.
