When I first arrived in Dubrovnik this summer, I didn’t immediately stay in the old town. Instead, I spent three nights in a charming apartment in the coastal town of Cavtat, Croatia.
From the balcony I enjoyed sweeping views of the sea and the surrounding hills. Each evening I watched spectacular sunsets with a cold beer in hand—pure bliss.
Cavtat is a peaceful, picturesque town just a short drive or boat ride from Dubrovnik. Its relaxed atmosphere, waterfront promenade, and small marina make it an ideal base for travelers who want to escape the crowds while remaining close to the city’s attractions. The town’s compact size means you can explore on foot, discovering quiet beaches, local cafés, and family-run restaurants serving fresh seafood and Croatian specialties.
The accommodation I chose was comfortable and well-located, offering easy access to both the water and the town center. Mornings began with the gentle sound of waves and the scent of sea air, while afternoons were perfect for wanderings along the coastline or short excursions to nearby coves. Evenings in Cavtat feel unhurried; locals and visitors alike gather on the seafront to watch the sun sink behind the horizon.
A short trip to Dubrovnik’s old town is effortless from Cavtat. Regular bus services and boat connections make it simple to spend a day exploring Dubrovnik’s historic walls, narrow streets, and cultural sites, then return to Cavtat for a quieter evening. This balance — easy access to Dubrovnik combined with Cavtat’s tranquil charm — made my stay especially enjoyable.
If you’re planning a visit to the Dubrovnik region, consider splitting your time between the bustling city and a quieter coastal town like Cavtat. You’ll get the best of both experiences: Dubrovnik’s rich history and vibrant energy, plus Cavtat’s relaxed pace and beautiful seaside scenery.
