An Oregon wine tasting review of Evening Land Vineyards, highlighting its Willamette Valley terroir, polished Pinot Noir, cozy Pacific Northwest tasting cabins, and what makes a visit memorable.

There’s a particular Pacific Northwest charm to Willamette Valley wine tasting, and a visit to Evening Land Vineyards makes that charm undeniable.

We recently toured Evening Land to see the refreshed tasting rooms and to experience their redesigned tasting offerings.

Driving into the Eola-Amity Hills, late morning fog clung to the hills while the surrounding forests glowed in rich Oregon green beneath cool gray skies.

A quiet gravel lane led under towering trees to a clustered set of buildings: two tasting cabins and a main house, all nestled among vines resting for the season.

Walking toward the warm cabins felt like approaching familiar friends. That welcoming, intimate vibe is a throughline of the Evening Land tasting experience.

About Evening Land Vineyards

Evening Land captures the pioneering spirit and earthy energy that define many Oregon wineries.

When the MacDonald family planted Seven Springs Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in 1980, vines were still relatively rare in the state. Since then, Oregon’s wine scene has risen to international recognition and the number of wineries has expanded dramatically.

All Evening Land wines are estate-grown on the Seven Springs property. The vineyard is surrounded by forested hills rich in wildlife and plant life, with a waterfall tucked on the grounds. That close relationship between vineyard and landscape is evident in wines that reflect the distinct terroir of this Pacific Northwest site.

Evening Land welcomes walk-ins who want a glass or a bottle in the outdoor picnic area, but the full Estate Tasting requires a reservation.

Tastings are by appointment Thursday through Monday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The tasting fee is $40 per person and includes six tastings. One tasting fee is waived for every four bottles purchased.

During our visit, Tasting Room Sales Associate Brandon Correa and Hospitality Manager Claire Rose Sexton guided us through the Estate Tasting inside one of the cozy cabins.

The cabins are intimate, with comfortable seating around a tasting table and a wood-burning stove that creates a warm, inviting atmosphere — ideal for slow conversation and careful tasting.

Brandon welcomed us with the 2018 Blanc de Noirs ($65). It showed a delicate salmon hue, lively effervescence, bright acidity, and gentle strawberry notes — an elegant and refreshing start.

Evening Land Vineyards Red Wines

The red flight began with a Gamay Noir and two Pinot Noirs.

First was the 2022 Seven Springs Gamay Noir ($45). It offered lush cherry and tart cranberry flavors typical of Gamay but presented with a bit more weight and noticeable tannic grip. If you prefer structured Gamays rather than the light, highly fruit-forward nouveau style, this wine will appeal.

Next came the 2022 Seven Springs Pinot Noir ($45). This approachable “drink now” Pinot delivers bright red fruit, lively acidity, and classic regional character — perfect for casual gatherings and holiday meals.

We closed the red tasting with the 2023 La Source Pinot Noir ($80). La Source bottles draw from some of the vineyard’s best fruit. This wine balanced sophistication and playfulness: vibrant berry and citrus notes layered with polished structure. It was a clear favorite for its complexity and charm.

Evening Land Vineyards White Wines

The white flight included a white Pinot Noir and two Chardonnays.

We began with the 2024 La Forêt Pinot Noir Blanc ($35). This white Pinot is bright and zesty, with delicate almond and honey notes that make it approachable and versatile with food.

Then came the 2023 Seven Springs Chardonnay ($40). It showed citrus-driven aromas and crisp acidity, offering a fresh, drinkable style that’s enjoyable now.

Finally, the 2023 La Source Chardonnay ($80) stood out for its balance and structure. With lemon and white blossom notes and a smooth, layered profile, it drinks well now but also has the acidity and frame to cellar for several years.

Marlynn’s Tip

What is white Pinot Noir?

White Pinot Noir is produced by pressing red Pinot Noir grapes immediately after harvest to extract juice without extended skin contact. Without the skins, the juice remains pale, producing a white-style Pinot with delicate red-fruit nuances.

Other Evening Land wines to try

For something different, try Evening Land’s Chenin Blanc. Few Willamette Valley producers make Chenin, and Evening Land’s version is notable for lush tropical fruit, lively acidity, and a long finish. The 2023 Seven Springs Chenin Blanc is typically priced around $35.

The Clair de Lune blend (50% Chardonnay, 50% Chenin Blanc) nods to Loire-style blends: fresh, bright, and elegantly balanced. The 2024 Clair de Lune is often offered near $55.

We recommend booking a reservation for the full tasting experience at Evening Land. The winery is also exploring the possibility of a waterfall hike at Seven Springs for warmer months, which would add an outdoor element to visits when available.
