These air fryer pop tarts are built with flaky refrigerated pie crust, filled with sweet mixed berry jam, cooked in an air fryer until golden, and finished with a pink vanilla glaze and cheerful sprinkles.

Air Fryer FAQ

An air fryer is a compact convection oven that circulates hot air to cook food quickly and create a crispy exterior similar to deep frying but with little or no oil. Models come in basket style or oven/toaster style; pick the one that fits your space and cooking needs.

There’s no single best model for everyone. Basket-style air fryers are compact and efficient for smaller batches, while oven-style units handle larger or multiple trays. Choose based on capacity and how much you typically cook.

Dishwasher safety depends on the brand and model. Check your manual or the manufacturer’s guidance. Many basket-style air fryers have dishwasher-safe baskets and trays, but always confirm first.

Using homemade dough

This recipe is semi-homemade with refrigerated pie crust, but you can use homemade pie dough if you prefer. A buttery homemade pie crust works great and adds extra flavor.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer (basket-style or oven-style)

Ingredients

For pop tarts:

  • 1 box refrigerated pie crust (2 crusts)
  • ⅓ cup berry jam
  • 1 large egg

For icing:

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk, as needed
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 drop pink food coloring (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons sprinkles

Instructions

For the Pop Tarts

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
  2. Unroll pie crusts on a lightly floured surface and cut 2×3-inch rectangles. You should get about 6 per crust.
  3. Gather scraps, re-roll to 1/8-inch thickness, and cut additional rectangles.
  4. Place 2 teaspoons of jam in the center of one rectangle, top with a second rectangle, and pinch edges to seal.
  5. Poke the top with a fork to vent, then crimp the edges with a fork to ensure a tight seal.
  6. Repeat with remaining rectangles. Beat the egg with a splash of water and brush the tops of the pop tarts with the egg wash.
  7. Place a few pop tarts in the air fryer without overcrowding. You may need multiple batches.
  8. Cook at 375°F for 8–10 minutes, until golden brown and crisp.
  9. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely before frosting.

For the Frosting

  1. Whisk together powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, vanilla, and food coloring in a small bowl.
  2. If the glaze is too thick, add the second tablespoon of milk a little at a time.
  3. Spread the frosting over cooled pop tarts and immediately top with sprinkles.
  4. Allow the frosting to set for about 10 minutes before serving.
