This Oatmeal Banana Milkshake is a tasty, filling breakfast or snack—simple to prepare and loved by both kids and adults.
Wishing a Happy Tamil New Year and Vishu to all my readers.
This year I’m starting with a guest post. After many struggles getting my son to eat, I decided to add toddler-friendly recipes to the blog and reached out to friends in the blogging community. I was touched by the generous responses and decided to feature guest posts for a week, so stay tuned for more toddler-friendly ideas.
Today’s guest is Sreelatha from FramedRecipes. We connected online and became friends; knowing she is a mom, I invited her to share a toddler-friendly recipe. Although her son is no longer a toddler, she kindly accepted and shared this healthy, delicious shake. It’s a great way to include fruit and whole grains in a child’s diet.
From Sreelatha:
Hello everyone,
I’m Sreelatha and I blog at FramedRecipes. I recently celebrated my blog’s first birthday and I’m still learning every day. Many thanks to Vidya for inviting me to share this recipe.
When Vidya asked for a toddler recipe I was initially unsure—my toddler days are behind me—but I jumped at the chance. Preparing simple, nutritious food for little ones taught me to focus on easy, wholesome recipes.
I started my son, Sonshine, on ragi porridge and vegetable purees. He soon preferred adult food, so we gradually introduced family meals. This recipe brought back those toddler days and inspired something I would have happily served then.
I chose Banana Oatmeal Milkshake because it’s easy to make, nutritious, balanced, filling, and flavorful. Even now I serve it to Sonshine as an after-school snack—when he finishes it, I know he’s had something both tasty and nourishing.
Now, on to the recipe.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Oats
- 1 cup Water
- 1 Banana
- 2 cups Milk See recipe notes
- 2 tablespoon Malted milk drink mix See recipe notes
- Sugar or honey to taste
Instructions
-
Cook the oats with one cup of water until fully cooked. Allow to cool to room temperature.
-
Roughly chop the banana.
-
Blend the cooked oats, chopped banana, milk, malted milk drink mix, and sugar or honey until smooth.
-
Serve immediately.
Notes
- I used refrigerated 2% milk. If you prefer, boil the milk and cool it to room temperature before using.
- I used a Nestle malted milk powder; Horlicks or similar products can be used. Check ingredient and allergen information before serving to young children.
- Adjust the sweetener to taste. This recipe is a great way to use ripe or browned bananas—the amount of added sugar depends on the banana’s sweetness.
- For a thicker shake, reduce the amount of milk; for a thinner drink, add more milk.
